The version that rates highest is the bike tour: the market at Versailles, then the estate on two wheels, because the grounds are two thousand acres and the walk between the palace and Marie-Antoinette's hamlet is longer than people expect. Go if the island is the thing you came to France for, and check whether the tide is high on your date, because that is when it looks like the photographs.

05 Champagne, the Loire châteaux and the wine country
