The best tours and tickets in Amsterdam, ranked by real reviews

Amsterdam sells more canal cruises than any other product by a wide margin, and they are not interchangeable: an open saloon boat with a guide and a covered hop-on service cost about the same and are different evenings. The ranking below weights each rating by how many people left one. A canal cruise starts at €13, museum entry at €9, and a windmill day at Zaanse Schans at €25.

Landmark tickets

Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House: which ticket to buy

Rijksmuseum

From €39, and the guided versions are worth it here more than at most museums: the Gallery of Honour is twenty paintings that need a hundred words each, and the rest of the building is a maze. Book a slot before ten or after three; the middle of the day is school groups.

Van Gogh Museum

Timed entry from €39 and the strictest slot policy in the city — arrive outside your window and you queue again. It sells out days ahead most of the year, not just in summer. The collection is chronological and the top floor is the last two years of his life, so do not run out of attention on the first.

Anne Frank House

Sold almost entirely direct, on a rolling six-week release, which is why partner tickets barely exist and why our catalogue covers it thinly. Set a reminder for the release date rather than hoping. Canal cruises that depart from the Prinsengracht dock outside it are a different product, not a way in.

What it costs

How much do tours and tickets cost in Amsterdam?

€9 cheapest ticket compared in Amsterdam

This is a cheap city to buy tickets in. Canal cruises start at €13 with a €32 median, museum entry at €9 with a €39 median, and both are lower than the equivalent in Paris or London. Food tours start at €27. Day trips carry a €90 median: Zaanse Schans from €25 is a half-day, Giethoorn from €59 a full one, and Keukenhof from €35 exists only from late March to mid-May.

When to book

How far ahead should you book in Amsterdam?

0% of the top ten flagged as likely to sell out

The Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House are the two that punish late booking, and they do it all year rather than only in summer. Van Gogh slots go three to seven days ahead; Anne Frank releases six weeks out and sells within hours. The Rijksmuseum is usually available a day or two ahead. Canal cruises can be booked the same afternoon except on King's Day and over Christmas. Keukenhof is worth booking with a shuttle rather than separately.

Good to know

Amsterdam tours and tickets: common questions

Practical answers on prices, priority access and booking windows in Amsterdam, written against the same data the ranking uses.

How much is a canal cruise in Amsterdam?

From €13 for a one-hour scheduled trip, with a €32 median across everything we compare. Open saloon boats with a live guide and drinks sit above that; covered hop-on services below it. Evening cruises rate highest, and the difference between a good one and a poor one is whether there is a guide rather than a recording.

Do you need to book Van Gogh Museum tickets in advance?

Yes. Entry is timed from €39, slots sell three to seven days ahead year-round, and the museum turns you away outside your window. It is the strictest ticket in the city.

How do you get Anne Frank House tickets?

Direct from the museum, on a rolling release six weeks before the date, and they go within hours. There is no reliable partner allocation, which is why you will find almost none listed here. A cruise leaving from the dock outside the house does not include entry.

What is the best day trip from Amsterdam?

Zaanse Schans paired with Volendam and Marken rates highest, from €25 for the half-day version. Giethoorn from €59 is the longer and quieter option. From late March to mid-May, Keukenhof from €35 outranks both, and outside those weeks it does not exist.

How far in advance should I book tours in Amsterdam?

A week covers everything except the Anne Frank House, which needs the release date, and Keukenhof in April, which needs a fortnight. Canal cruises and food tours stay bookable a day or two out for most of the year.
